Tom Rich - Dinosaur Discoverer!

Dinosaur Discoverer - Hampton Park
Adults and secondary-level teens will be spellbound as we host one of the world's most pre-eminent experts in Dinosaurs DownUnder at this FREE event!

Dr Rich will intrigue you with his extensive work on Dinosaur Dreaming, a project he leads each year with a group of volunteers at Cape Otway and Flat Rocks, near Inverloch. This is where he unearthed the find of a lifetime - challenging scientists' traditional understanding of the evolution of mammals.

In more than 20 years of digging, he and his colleagues have found the remains of at least 15 species, two of which are named after his children. DO NOT MISS the chance to hear about the fascinating Dinosaur Cove; the books he writes with colleague and wife, Prof. Patricia Vickers-Rich, a paleobiologist at Monash University; and his continuing work to piece together the history of life in one of the world's most isolated continents.

Suits adults and secondary-level students.

HUNGER GAMES - award winning trilogy by Suzanne Collins.

Hunger Games is a perfect blend of edge of your seat suspense and science fiction, with sprinklings of romance. However, it is not for the feint hearted!

In a future post-apocalyptic world, the powerful government called the Capitol maintain control through an annual televised survival competition. One boy and one girl from each of the twelve Districts are pitted against each other until only one remains. 16 year old Katniss Everdeen's skills are put to the test when she volutarily takes her younger sister's place.

A hard hitting, in your face story of survival,
self realisation, ruthlessness and compassion. I could NOT put this book down!!!

Book 2 Catching Fire is available now and book 3 'Mockingjay' is due to be released in August 2010.
Also, if you like this series why not try Graceling by Kristin Cashore.

Cheers julie @ pakenham.

*** Lionsgate entertainment company (Saw, Transporter 3 and Kick-ass) have acquired the rights to distribute the film from the book Hunger Games, sometime in 2011!

The Ant Colony

'The Ant Colony' is the latest intriguing novel by Jenny Valentine.

Teenage Sam has a past, and it is clear that he running away from something. But we don't know what and the reader is kept guessing as bit by bit we discover clues and attempt to piece them together.

Sam moves into a house in the city and reluctantly meets the new characters in his new house. They are a mixture of eccentric characters of all different ages. In the middle of the novel they all come together for a house meeting, which is greatly entertaining reading.

There is single mother, Cherry, and her ten year old daughter, Bohemia, who both are descended from Romany gypsies. Then there is Steve, the landlord, who resembles a lizard. And the elderly Isobel who lives on the ground floor with her dog and knows everybody's business. And lastly, Mick who lives in the attic and starts to become interested in Cherry.

In a way the characters run around like ants, and it isn't until the end of the novel that they unite and we discover Sam's devastating secret.
